Helping Young People at Risk

We are thrilled to have been awarded £36,661 from the Youth Endowment Fund Covid-19 grant round to fund our work for twelve months in Inner London with families referred to us by the Youth Offending Service.  We will be working with young people, their parents and siblings with multiple risk factors for involvement in youth violence and offending behaviour in later life.  We will focus on working with identified of those experiencing emotional and physical trauma by delivering virtual support groups and individual one-to-one support for young people and the online parenting programme Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities and one-to-one family support for parents.

The aim of the programme is to improve emotional health and wellbeing and prevent future offending behaviour.

The Youth Endowment Fund is an independent charitable trust set up by the Home Office. It funds, supports and evaluates projects in England and Wales which work to prevent children and young people from being drawn into violent crime.

Welcare is one of 130 organisations to share part of a £6.5m grant pot from the Youth Endowment Fund to help at-risk young people impacted by COVID-19.

Jon Yates, Executive Director at Youth Endowment Fund, said: “It has been too easy to forget vulnerable young people during this crisis. The pandemic has removed much of the critical support that many of them rely upon – from teachers to youth workers. This funding will help us find the best way to reach and support these young people when they most need it.”
