Children’s services in England “shaky as Jenga tower” according to independent review

The head of an independent review has described English children’s services system as “a tower of Jenga held together by Sellotape”.  According to Josh MacAlister the system needs major reform and investment, and is currently “bureaucratic, risk-averse, financially strained, and over-focused on investigating potential abuse and neglect at the expense of providing practical support for struggling families.”

We welcome the review and look forward to reading the final report and recommendations. We trust that it will prompt greater interest and funding to support parents rather than investigating them.

Everything we do as a charity is to help develop lifelong loving relationships around children, this is our mission and all our individual and group work programmes aim to build strong relationships within the family.  Welcare has continued to deliver child and family support services with a tapestry of different funding to maintain our vital services despite chronic underfunding of services for vulnerable families.
