Volunteer Family Helpers – Bromley

Family Helpers provide practical support and guidance to a parent or carer. Family Helpers are matched with a parent or carer for up to three months. They meet in the family home once a week to help with practical tasks. Family Helpers are happy to roll up their sleeves and work alongside the parent, exploring with a family how improving their home environment can make a radical impact on their life. Helpers will report regularly to their supervising support worker. After three months supporting one family, the Helper is then matched with a new family.

Primary Duties

  • To mentor the parent in healthy living and help them develop the skills for a safe and happy home
  • To help foster an appreciation for good housekeeping and structure within the family home
  • Practical activities may include helping create routines, washing, shopping, cleaning etc.
  • To give friendly support and encouragement to overcome challenges and help develop skills which may include budgeting or housework.
  • Ensure observations are correctly reported to the Family Support Worker
  • Assist the family in maintaining routines
  • To give encouragement and support
  • To attend the twice yearly volunteer ‘get-togethers’ with other volunteers
  • To ensure you engage fully with the project and maintain records and reports on your activities
  • To operate within all relevant policies and guidelines, including health and safety, equal opportunities, confidentiality, safeguarding regulations
  • To follow advice from line manager and engage in regular supervision

Time Requirements

You should be able to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week. You will receive full training and must commit to attend a minimum of 24 hours training over a 12 week period.
