Though volunteering with families can at times be challenging, we are dedicated to ensuring you have a positive volunteering experience. As a volunteer you can:
- Make a positive difference to a child’s life
- Help to strengthen and empower families
- Build your confidence
- Learn new skills
- Increase your employability
Benefits of volunteering with Welcare
A Welcare volunteer benefits from a professional support structure. You will have a direct line manager who will be responsible for giving guidance and on-going support. Volunteers have a detailed role description, which gives you clear guidance of your role and responsibilities within the organisation. Volunteers are never asked to fulfill the role of a member of staff, volunteers complement the professional support we offer families and children. Where we are able to we will assist in giving you new experiences and developing new skills.
At Welcare volunteers are an integral part of our team. Whether you have worked in a similar role before or working with families is an entirely new experience, our training gives you all the practical knowledge you need to have an enjoyable and safe volunteering experience. Our current training includes two days of mandatory training in Effective Volunteering and Safeguarding. There is an additional two day’s training for those working as Family Helpers or Mentors. We have a range of volunteer opportunities. The time and commitment needed from volunteers will often depend on the role. Some volunteers may help in the office, others for one off events, whilst some volunteer weekly mentoring families and children or helping run group sessions.
What do we require from our Volunteers?
