Child Safety Scheme

The scheme concentrates on making the homes of children under 5 safer.

In a single visit a home is assessed for safety, and then the appropriate safety equipment is fitted where needed. Over 20 safety items are available, including safety barriers, cupboard catches, smoke alarms and bath thermometers.

The maximum cost to the family for the assessment, equipment and fitting is just £10.

Two months after the appointment, an evaluation form is sent to the family. Among other questions, it asks them to estimate how many accidents the equipment has prevented.

At present we provide this service in Lambeth, Southwark, Newham, Hackney, Haringey, and Tower Hamlets. We are hoping to develop it in other boroughs across the Diocese of Southwark.

To apply for the safety scheme please contact your Health Vistor, Baby Clinic or Children's Centre who will then make a referal on your behalf.
