We run groups and workshops to enable us to reach more families and provide a welcoming and supportive environment for those who come to use our services. Groups can be an excellent way for families and children to share their experiences, as well as build up a local support network.

The Baby Café is a group for breastfeeding mothers to meet up in a relaxed setting and get support with any breastfeeding worries. Partners and other family members are welcome. The Baby Café meets on a weekly basis apart from during half term holidays.
This course is for parents and their non-crawling babies from 8 weeks old. The course helps parents to increase their bond with their baby through touch in a relaxing and informative setting.
Throughout the year we provide cookery courses to help families with limited cooking skills learn the basics and enable them to prepare healthy and delicious meals! The main aim of this course is to show parents how you can cook great tasting healthy food on a budget.
This two hour course gives an introduction to first aid, such as the essential contents of a first aid box, baby CPR, baby choking, the recovery position and the information that is asked if you call 999. There is a small charge for this course and it is only available to parents, carers and soon-to-be parents.
Home-Based Child Carers Group
This is a self-supporting group to assist home-based child carers in developing and sharing good practice, providing a network in an informal and friendly environment. The session also provides opportunities for evidencing the EYFS Learning Journal.
Introduction to Family Foods
This is a two hour course which is run by the 0-19 team. For parents with babies aged up to 6 months we can also help provide advice on introducing them to solid foods.
New Mums and Dads Postnatal Group
This is a course for mums and dads with new babies (under 6 months). We provide a relaxed environment covering relationships and feelings, child development and health issues. It offers a great chance to meet other new parents and build up a local support network.
Managing Challenging Behaviour
This course looks at what ADHD and ADD are, and how they affect a child as well as their parents. We look at what parents can do and helps them to find the right support for their family and their child.
One Step at a Time
A small, friendly play session for families with children (0-3 years) who have, or may have, special needs.
This is a course run by the Family Learning Association and helps parents and carers to identify their skills, experience and qualities to help make a start with, or improve, their CV and job prospects.
This course encourages parents and carers to enjoy bringing up children and get the best out of family life. We offer positive and practical ways of guiding children so they can better learn to handle their feelings and their behaviour. We have 4 week and 10 week courses available.
Playtime at Merstham Playlink
Playtime at Merstham Playlink is a twice weekly drop in for mums, dads and their under 5’s to come along and have fun playing together. Each session offers a craft activity, singing and refreshments.
Say & Play
Say & Play is a parents forum meeting where we can listen to your views to help us provide the services families are looking for from their local Surestart Children’s Centre.
Sing with Sammy
This is five week course for parents and their under 5’s to come and have fun with music, movement, rhythm, sound and song alongside our puppet Sammy.
Stay & Play
Stay & Play is a weekly drop-in for mums and dads and their under 5’s to come along a have fun playing together. Each session offers a craft activity, singing and refreshments.
This is a group for mums, dads and carers with children aged 0 – 4 years old to help improve communication skills within families, while children are playing with and developing their own. The course covers listening and attention, understanding and social communication.
Transition into School
Courses which look at playing and learning, social skills like dressing and visiting the toilet, getting ready for school and developing skills for language and maths.
Walk and Talk
These are free walks in the local area for parents and their 0 – 4 year olds, by buggy or on foot to explore the local area. Come and join us – the walks are fun, free, and keep you fit!
